I found the Technology Integration Matrix to be an interesting document. After looking at some of the lessons and reading through the matrix, I decided to rate myself under Adoption and Active. To be completely honest, I was surprised at how basic my technology integration was, as I consider myslef to be one that incorporates a lot of technology.
I chose Adoption for my level of technology integration into the curriculum. I chose this based on my teaching practices last school year, since I am not teaching lessons in my current posistion. I felt this was the right rating for me because I did use the technology, but I gave little room for creativity or student interpretation. For my characteristic of the learning environment, I chose Active. Students were always using the technology appropriately, but I never let them move further on the matrix.
I would like to show the teachers in my school this matrix and have them rate themselves. While I won't have the opportunity this year to improve my "score" on the matrix, I would like to help other teachers improve their posistion on it. I think that once everyone is in a technology frame of mind and become more aware of the steps and processes, moving through the matrix will be an attainable goal. Collaboration will be key.
Since we are adopting Google Chromebooks next year, I have set a goal to help with implementation. I would like to start providing weekly Google tips and lesson starters for the teachers in my building. I feel that this will help them move through the matrix while also preparing the framework for next year's 1:1 implementation. I will have to start with small, attainable steps to avoid teacher burnout.
Building confidence in their individual abilities is the most logical way that I see to help my teachers move through the matrix. Hopefully the teachers will see the benefit as much as I do!
